Playground Renovation Effort Friends of Portage Park seeks to renovate the outdated playground in the southwest corner of Portage Park. Our mission is to garner support from the Chicago Park District, elected officials, community leaders, local businesses and residents. This is designed to bring about needed improvements that will ensure the play lot is a safe place to play and continues to be a vital amenity to the vibrant and diverse community of Portage Park. Portage Park is considered one of the most used if not the most used park in the entire north region. The playground is not handicap accessible or ADA compliant. The equipment is old and antiquated and not age appropriate. We have been working with the Chicago Park District and our elected officials, including our 38th Ward Alderman Thomas Allen, who has pledged his support for the project. We are currently seeking community partners to assist us in this effort. The approximate cost for this project is estimated at $1 million. We are asking for your support. You can help make Portage Park the focal point of the neighborhood and the region of which we can all be proud. We trust that bringing about improvements to the playground will ensure that the park retains its central role, and that the project will generate continued interest and involvement from community leaders, business and residents in keeping this park We are seeking the following improvements to the Portage Park Play lot: Replacing all equipment and installing age appropriate equipment that is ADA compliant
